Why Faith is the Foundation of Everything
Benson Yerimah's vision for BensonEdge is inseparable from his faith. He believes — and we as an organization believe — that the deepest problems facing Africa are not primarily economic or political, but spiritual and moral. When a generation loses its moral compass, no amount of education or economic development can produce lasting flourishing.
This is why faith and values are not an add-on to BensonEdge's programs — they are the foundation upon which everything else is built. Every school we run, every farm we operate, every healthcare center we build, every soccer academy we manage — all of it is permeated with the conviction that God is the source of all wisdom, strength, and purpose.
We are not ashamed of this conviction. We believe it is the most important thing we can give to the young people we serve — a relationship with God that will sustain them through every challenge they face in life.
Character Formation: The Curriculum of Life
Academic knowledge and vocational skills are important, but they are not enough. A brilliant engineer with no integrity can cause more harm than good. A talented footballer with no character will squander his gift. BensonEdge invests deeply in the character formation of every young person who comes through our programs.
Our character education curriculum is structured around the core virtues that the Bible identifies as essential to a godly life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We teach these not as abstract concepts, but as practical habits that are developed through daily choices and consistent practice.
We use stories, role-play, mentorship, community service, and peer accountability to help young people internalize these values. We also work with parents and families, because we know that character is formed primarily in the home — our role is to reinforce and support what families are already doing.
Building Communities of Faith and Accountability
Individual faith is important, but faith expressed in community is transformative. BensonEdge creates intentional communities of young people who encourage, challenge, and hold each other accountable to the values they have committed to. These communities become the social fabric that sustains young people through the inevitable challenges of life.
Our youth groups meet regularly for worship, Bible study, community service, and fellowship. They are led by trained youth leaders who model the values we teach and create safe spaces for young people to ask hard questions, share struggles, and grow together.
We also partner with local churches, because we believe the local church is God's primary vehicle for community transformation. BensonEdge works alongside — not instead of — the church, strengthening its capacity to disciple and serve the next generation.
